Strand Katwijk (40x25cm) olieverf op paneel
Begin deze zomer heb ik dit schilderij in Katwijk geschilderd. Aan de noord kant van de monding van de Rijn.
Het is op de afbeeldingen denk ik niet goed te zien maar er stond een harde noorden wind. Tegen de duinen aan in de luwt van de strand tent stond ik goed met uitzicht op een mooie thema. De lucht was helder blauw door de droge lucht van zee. En ik schilderde met de zon in mijn rug. De lucht is dan dieper en donkerder blauw dan wanneer je met tegenlicht schildert. Het koude blauw contrasteerde mooi met het warme oker gekleurde zand en het wit geschilderd hout.
Early this summer, I painted this painting in Katwijk, on the north side of the Rhine estuary.
I don’t think it’s clearly visible in the images, but there was a strong northerly wind. Positioned against the dunes, sheltered by the beach pavilion, I had a good view of a beautiful subject. The sky was bright blue thanks to the dry sea air. And I painted with the sun at my back. The sky is then a deeper and darker blue than when you paint with backlight. The cold blue contrasted beautifully with the warm ochre sand and the white painted wood.
